Colossians 4:2

Devote yourself to prayer, keeping alert in it with an attitude of thanksgiving.

Introduction: Story of golfers who became thirsty and found an old pump. At first it appeared that there was no water, perseverance proved that the water was there. It just took time to get it to the surface.

1. The practice of prayer creates a desire for God.
   • Psalmist – as the deer pants after the water (brook) so my heart pants after thee, oh Lord.
2. Keep alert in it.
   • Failure in prayer cause our heart to turn cold, and we lose interest in communicating with God.
     • Human heart is like a leaky vessel… like water the tendency is always downward.
3. Practice of prayer produces a thankful spirit.
