Galatians 5:16-26

“Walk by the Spirit and you will not carry out the desires of the flesh.” Galatians 5:16

Every believer can learn to walk by the Spirit.

1. The conflict (verses 16-17)
   • Between the flesh and the Spirit characterized by
     1. Pig – eats garbage
     1. Lamb will not touch it
   • We cannot simply will this conflict out of existence
2. The conquest (verse 18)
   • The secret is surrender of our will to the Holy Spirit – means willingly led by the Spirit
   • This is opposite to walking in the flesh
3. The crucifixion (verses 19-21)
   • The sins that destroy
     • Sensual sins (verses 19 & 21b)
     • Superstitious sins (verse 20a)
     • Social sins (verses 20b-21)
   • The person who practices these sins shall not inherit the Kingdom.
   • How to handle the old nature
     • The old nature must be crucified (verse 24)
       1. Christ not only died for me – removes penalty
       1. I died with Christ – breaks sin’s power
