The Ransom

I Peter 1:13-25

History has seen some great events involving ransom. Probably most often, they have involved kidnapping. We think of famous cases involving the Lindbergh and Sinatra families, as well as political cases. In each case, large sums of money were involved. If a chosen party could put up enough money, then the apprehended one would hopefully be set free. Some of these cases have ended happily and others tragically.

The most famous ransom of all was the one our Lord provided. His ransom was broad in scope for it includes all men. In these other cases, it usually benefited one person directly, but with Jesus, His ransom included the entire world. For we were all under the power of sin until Jesus came and did that which would free us from such bondage.
