Promises to Live By

II Peter 1:1-8

There is no question that life gets confusing at times. There may be things that come to pass in our experiences that we just don’t understand, resulting in confusion. We don’t need to dwell on the confusion today; a more productive approach is to consider how we can handle the things that are so hard to understand.

Today’s Scripture speaks to us about the great and precious promises God has made. If they are so desirable, then we want to learn how to benefit from them. There are several ways we can do that.

  • Cling to the promise maker
  • Cling to the promises
    • We need to know what they are
      • They are in the Word of God
    • Know the different kinds of promises
  • Calculate the results
    • Quality in your life (II Peter 1:5-7)
    • Blessing from trusting
    • Confidence in the promises
      • Joseph was so sure of the promises of God that he made arrangements for his body to be taken back to Israel when the Israelites returned

What do we do when we don’t know what to do? We can cling to the Promise Maker. He is faithful to His words. We can claim the promises as ours, as we submit our lives to the Lord’s keeping. We can see the results of God’s promises and trust Him even more. Our lives will be richer and fuller in the face of it all.

II Peter 1:5-8
5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7 and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. 8 For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
