The Bible in a Young Heart

Psalm 119:1-16

All of you young people know what a mirror is used for, I am sure. You watch folks stand before the mirror. Some congratulate themselves on what they see. Others don’t like what they see, so they try to improve upon their reflection.

God’s Word is a mirror too. It doesn’t tell us so much about what we are on the outside, but it does tell us all about what we are like on the inside and what we need to do to improve what we are.

I have a verse of Scripture I want you to remember today. “I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” Psalm 119:11

There are several things about God’s Word that I would like you to remember.

  • The best book
    • The Bible is a bestseller
      • Why is it important?
        • Because of the Author
        • Because of its contents
          • Shows us who we are
          • Shows us what we are
          • Shows us what we need
          • Shows us how to get what we need
  • In the best place
    • I have hidden your word in my heart
      • A Bible is of little value sitting on a shelf
      • In the heart, the truth cannot be destroyed
  • For the best purpose
    • To live for God
    • To live in victory
    • To rise out of defeat

“The Bible is the only book for thinkers, readers, scholars, speakers, men, women, and children. If we can only have one book, save us the Bible.” Jos. H. Choate

“If a man is not familiar with the Bible, he has suffered a loss which had had better make all haste to correct.” Theodore Roosevelt
