Gearing Up for Service

I Peter 1:13-21

We Christians are persons with the highest privilege. Our privilege extends in several ways. We are children of the King; we have royal blood. We are reborn. We have eternal life. We are privileged to serve the Lord.

How we serve the Lord is one of the most important things. Through the pen of Peter, the Lord challenges us into service appropriate to His purpose. By incorporating these fundamentals into one’s experience, everyone can be prepared to serve the Lord.

  • The mental preparation (I Peter 1:13)
    • Girded for action
      • Get into a proper attitude for service
    • Be sober in spirit
      • Sober doesn’t mean sad
      • Sober doesn’t mean mad
      • Sober means to take the calling of the Lord to your life seriously
        • We are involved in ministry to people. Their spiritual well-being may depend upon the quality of our service.
  • The spiritual preparation
    • Fix your hope on the Lord
      • Present
      • Future
    • Be different ( I Peter 1:14a)
    • Be holy
      • Live right
      • What is the standard?
    • Have proper respect for the Lord (I Peter 1:17)
      • Reverent fear
      • Not wanting to do anything to displease God

Therefore, each of us can be prepared for service. Your service is much more than doing an act. It involves the quality of your life and the attitude with which you serve the Lord.
