Paul said, “I am a servant.”
The word “servant” is not degrading. It was a term used to denote people who held various positions for royalty. So it is a word that carries dignity.
- What kind of servant?
Paul gave himself a title that changed the meaning slightly. He said that he was a bond-servant. In this case, it means one who is a purchased possession. This does not take away from the dignity of the task, but it does show an attitude toward it.
The difference here is who the Master is. He said, “I am a servant of Jesus Christ.” Jesus is a king; therefore, he was serving a king. This is every Christian’s privilege. We, therefore, ought to talk like it, live like it, look like it, and work like it.
- How do you become a servant of Jesus?
- You are called
- Jesus said, “You have not chosen Me, but I have chosen you.” John 15:16
- You are separated
- To be separated is not to be isolated.
- Set apart for special work
- We don’t need isolation, but insulation
- To be separated is not to be isolated.
- You are called
- What is our service?
- To tell God’s good news
- “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20
- To tell God’s good news
