Romans 5:1-5

There is great joy in forgiveness!

We have in our past considerations of the book of Romans seen the effects of sin. We have noted in this respect that sin draws us away from God, creates unwanted relationships with our fellow brothers and creates all manner of internal problems.

Today, we look at this brief section of Scripture and see the positive results of the forgiveness of sin. This causes us to see the great benefit of being a follower of Christ.

• I am admitted to God’s family
  • God’s wrath is removed
  • We are reconciled to God
    • Illustrated in the story of the prodigal son
• I am acceptable to God
  • God’s grace is shown to us
    • Grace means he has given me someting I don’t deserve
      • Justice
      • Mercy
      • Grace
  • The results of acceptability
    • I can handle trouble
    • This produces a chain reaction perseverance, proven character, hope, and satisfaction
• I have an advantage
  • I am at peace with God
  • I have the peace of God
    • This affects our relationship with others
    • I can be
      • forgiving
      • understanding
      • patient

Having seen the results of being justified or forgiven by God, we can see that living a Christian life benefits us today and in the future.
