James 4:1-10

We are reminded that James is writing to Christians to help them deal with trials and problems in their lives. In earlier sections, he speaks of the trials and problems that come from without, in the latter sections he is dealing with the problems from within. He addresses the world’s problems in the Christian. When we receive Christ, we begin to live by new standards and principles, but it is not always easy to relinquish the old principles and standards.

The key verse is James 4:5. He jealously desires the Spirit, which He has made to dwell within us.

  • There are several problems that we face as we allow ourselves to be governed by the world
    • lust, desire for worldly possessions
    • Murder, our hatred
    • Envy, over others
    • Adultry, claim the name of Jesus but want to live by the world’s standards at the same time
  • The prayer life of the believer is affected
• God wants us to be controlled by the Holy Spirit
  • We must invite Him to control us
  • We must yield to His control
• The prerequisites to such an experience
  • Submit to God and resist the devil
  • Experience cleansing
  • Humble ourselves
