Psalm 105:1-5

Last Sunday, we looked at ways in which we can express our rejoicing and be glad in the Lord. We considered some of those ways: expressions of thanksgiving, singing, living in awareness of God’s presence, and remembering all His works on our behalf.

It is one thing to know ways in which we can express our joy, but what makes the experience most fulfilling is to know the reasons for such gladness; so tonight, I want to think with you about why we should rejoice in the Lord. There are a number of reasons for this:

• God’s power (Psalm 105:1-2)
  • God’s power is often expressed in His majesty/greatness
  • Nothing compares with the greatness of our God
    • Who else could have created the universe?
  • Awareness of God’s greatness leads to worship
    • Psalm 48:1 “Great is the Lord, and most worthy of praise,
          in the city of our God, his holy mountain.”
    • Psalm 95:3 “For the Lord is the great God,
          the great King above all gods.”
• God’s presence (Psalm 105:4)
  • He is always present
    • Psalm 139:7-12
    • We need to learn to practice the presence of the Lord
• God’s purpose
  • To know Him
    • We can know a lot about Him, but God’s purpose is that we know Him
    • This comes about by relating to Him
      • Through His Word
      • Through prayer
      • Through interaction with others who know Him
  • To enjoy Him
  • He allows us to abide with Him
    • John 14:1-4 “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” 
• God’s pardon
  • What keeps us from this rich relationship?
    • Sin!
  • God removed that hindrance
    • I John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
    • Psalm 103:12 “as far as the east is from the west,
          so far has he removed our transgressions from us.”

Therefore, we can all be glad (rejoice). We have every reason to rejoice in the Lord always.
