Ways to Grow

I Peter 2:1-12

We are living in a world with a great deal of awareness about diet. Many in our culture are taken with what will be good for you and what is nutritionally sound. This is good.

Of equal importance is the diet of the Christian. Just as there are things important to our physical well-being, there are points important to our spiritual well-being.

Peter discusses things that will help us grow as we look at this section of Scripture and he shows us that each of us can grow in our Christian experience.

  • We grow by eating good food (I Peter 2:1-3)
    • The comparison to a newborn seeking food
      • Nothing is more important
      • Nothing will distract
    • The product
      • Pure milk
        • Not adulterated or contaminated
      • Milk of the Word
        • First the simple
        • Followed by the meatier
  • Associate with the right people (I Peter 2:4-8)
    • Our association is with the Lord
      • He is the chief cornerstone of the Christian experience
      • He is the person who is a great watershed for life
        • Accept Him for who He is
        • Stumble over Him
  • Live up to your birthright (I Peter 2:9-12)
    • We are chosen
    • We are the people of God
    • We are aliens and strangers

Therefore, we have been given the methods for growing. It is good to check ourselves to see whether we are using what God has made available to us for our development.

What is your spiritual diet?

With whom do you have the closest affiliation?

Are you living up to what Jesus Christ makes possible for you?

Dear friends, I urge you, as foreigners and exiles, to abstain from sinful desires, which wage war against your soul. Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us. I Peter 2:11-12
