Enjoy God!

Psalm 37:23-34

“Dear God, thank you for the baby brother, but what I asked for was a puppy. I never asked for anything before. Can you look into this?” Joyce

“Dear God, I didn’t think orange went with purple until I saw the sunset you made on Tuesday night. That was really cool.” Carol

“Dear God, I don’t think anybody could be a better God than you. Well, I just want you to know that. I am saying that because you are already God.” Charles

This sampling of children’s prayers showcases the easy relationship children have with God. They feel free to share anything and enjoy the experience. What a great blessing to set aside formalities and simply speak to God.

Through the Psalms, we have touched upon multiple facets of God’s characteristics. We recently discussed the security we have by the providential provision of the Lord as we live in a world in turmoil. As we trust God to take care of our needs and protect us, we can move on to another aspect of God’s manifest blessings. We can enjoy Him.

  • Understanding God’s nature
    • There are two extreme misconceptions about God
      • That He seeks to find ways He can punish us for wrongs
        • For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. John 3:17
      • He is in His love for us will accept anything
        • There is a way that appears to be right, but in the end it leads to death. Proverbs 16:25
    • We were created for fellowship with Him
    • God desires our fellowship
    • We can have it
  • Appreciate God’s support
    • He is our assistance (Psalm 37:23-24)
      • He protects us when we falter
      • He holds our hand
    • He is our assurance (Psalm 37:25)
  • Accept God’s mercy (Psalm 37:34)
    • There is evil and evildoers, don’t fret about them
      • Concentrate on God’s ways
      • Be a recipient of His mercy
        • Mercy is getting what we don’t deserve

These things will help us enjoy God and His relationship to us. If we understand His ways more fully, we will appreciate the benefits He brings us, which will enable us to accept the rich and fulfilling experiences He wants us to have.
