Job 14:14
The most important question ever raised among men is recorded in Job 14:14: “If someone dies, will they live again?”
Men have searched in many areas and by many means to find a conclusive answer to that question. The answer is an unqualified “yes”. The Bible says, “it is appointed unto man once to die, and after that judgment.” (Hebrews 9:27). Since we all must face the judgment of God, we can be assured that there is life to be experienced and man can live again.
How do we know that a person can live again?
Eternal life is a free gift. “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23
Though every person has sinned against God (Romans 3:23), He has provided a way for our sins to be forgiven. He sent His only son to save sinners (Luke 19:10).
Faith in Christ Jesus is the means by which the gift of salvation can be received. They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.” (Acts 16:31)
There are testimonies of men who know they will live again.
- Job
- I know that my redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand on the earth. Job 19:25
- Jesus
- Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?” John 11:25-26
- Paul
- For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. According to the Lord’s word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. I Thessalonians 4:14-17
It is a wonderful thing to live with the knowledge that even though death should overtake you one day, because we have accepted the offer of eternal life and met God’s conditions for receiving it, we can have eternal life.
