Encouragement for Needy Hearts

Psalm 46

One dark day two thousand years ago, there was a person who, in the midst of great agony and despair, cried out, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”

That was the cry of the Son of God, who, while carrying the load of the sin of the world, knew what it was for the first time to be devoid of the presence of the Father. That was a legitimate cry. But it is never true that the child of God lives without the presence of the Lord upon his life.

Let’s examine the promise in Psalm 46 to see how God keeps His promise to help the believer in matters of daily living.

  • The protection of the Lord
    • God is our refuge
      • A place of safety
    • A place of rest and renewal
      • Jesus often called his men away to protect them against burnout
  • The power of the Lord
  • The presence of the Lord
    • Jesus appeared on the Emmaus road (Luke 24:13-35)
    • A promise
      • He is near to all those who call on His name

The only conclusion that we can draw to all of this is that God keeps His promises, and because of that, you and I are blessed because He is here to help us in every situation, every day.
