King David was in a very perplexing circumstance when he wrote this Psalm. He was under heavy stress from the enemy pressing him.
We are not told just what form of attack David was under at this time. It may have been those distressing days when Absalom was after the throne. It may have been an earlier time when Saul was seeking David’s life because he was jealous of the fact that the throne belonged to David. The most important thing is not what the problem was, but how he found help in that problem.
It is inevitable that we will face time in our living when we are in circumstances like David. It is important to know that everyone of us can find help from the Lord in such times. There are several ways that this is pointed out in this passage.
- God is there to hear our cry (Psalm 5:1-3)
- Crying out to God was a natural thing for David to do
- The first thing in the day was given to seek the Lord’s help
- He is the one in whom we can have confidence (Psalm 5:4-7)
- We cannot do wickedly and expect the Lord to deliver us
- The godly find His mercy abundantly
- He protects and guides us (Psalm 5:8-10)
- No matter what or who our enemy may be, we can be confident of His help
- He brings deliverance (Psalm 5:11-12)
- We can take refuge in the Lord
- We can lift up the name of the Lord
- He brings blessing into our lives
Therefore, each of us can find our help in the Lord.
