When You are Down in the Dumps

Psalm 8

There are times in our lives when we are just down in the dumps and it seems nothing is going well. We could walk under a snake’s belly with a high silk hat and never tickle him at all. We have all had those experiences. How do you handle them?

Psalm 8 refers to an unspeakable help during such times. For this Psalm brings us to the awareness that because of the joys to be realized, we should praise the Lord.

  • We can praise Him for who He is
    • The words “Lord” are not repetitive
      • The first is a name given to our God. It means Jehovah.
      • The second is a title. This title speaks of our relationship to Him as our master.
  • We can praise Him for His creation
    • The splendor of creation
    • The special position of man in creation
      • “You have made them a little lower than the angels”
        • Speaks of our glory
      • Crowned with majesty
        • We have the privilege of fellowship with God. This is granted to man only in all of the earth’s creation

What do you do when you are down in the dumps? Praise the Lord!
