New Beginnings

Deuteronomy 8:1-14

God has granted His grace throughout history in allowing us to have new beginnings. The Scripture of the morning shows this quite clearly as His people were leaving the past of Egypt and were preparing for a new start in a new land.

Let us see how that experience of long ago relates to our experience here today.

  • The new beginning for Israel
    • A reminder (Deuteronomy 8:2)
      • Horeb to Kadesh Barnea is only an 11 day trip (Mt. Sinai to the Promised Land)
      • Their disobedience caused delays
    • A rousing call (Deuteronomy 8:6)
    • A warning (Deuteronomy 8:2-14)
    • God’s righteousness (Deuteronomy 9:4)
  • The new beginning for us
    • A reminder
      • We have sinned
      • “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” Romans 3:23
    • We are called to a new life
      • “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.” Revelations 3:20
    • We need to seek the Lord
      • “Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near. Let the wicked forsake their ways and the unrighteous their thoughts. Let them turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on them, and to our God, for he will freely pardon.” Isaiah 55:6-7
    • God’s righteousness gives us new beginnings
      • “He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit” Titus 3:5
