God’s Way to Provide Life

Deuteronomy 30:11-20

Choices… there are so many choices to make.

I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. So choose life so that you may live, you and your descendants.

A little background

  • Israel is out of slavery and about to enter the Promised Land
  • Moses is about to die
  • God tells the nations what to do
    • Rehearse the blessings and the curses from Mt Ebal and Gerizim (Deuteronomy 27 & 28)

Given the benefits, it is better to choose life and experience God’s blessings than to choose one’s own way and experience death.

  • Because of God’s purpose
    • Because He loves us everlastingly
    • How can God bless us?
      • Love God
      • Obey God
      • Be loyal to God
  • God’s purity calls for holy living
    • If we choose not to walk in God’s ways, there are natural consequences
      • Adversity and death
      • Disobedience always brings the curse
  • Because of God’s plan
    • God’s plan is a dwelling place
      • For Israel, it was the Promised Land
      • For us, it is the Kingdom of Heaven
        • Fear not, little flock, it is the Father’s good pleasure to give you the Kingdom. (Luke 12:32)
    • God’s plan is not out of reach (Deuteronomy 30:11-14)
    • God’s plan is not unreachable (Deuteronomy 30:15-16)
      • If a person is living under a sentence of death and someone offers a way of deliverance, almost anything is reasonable
        • It is reasonable because it is right
        • It is reasonable because it is the way of fulfillment

I have set before you life and death… choose life!

Therefore, it is better to choose life and experience God’s blessing than to choose your own way and experience death. It is only through choosing life that we can fulfill our need to meet God’s purpose.
