A Value Greater than Gold
To show the great value of the Bible in the many things as it guides us in our daily living.
One of the richest benefits we have as followers of our Lord is the Bible. This Psalm highlights for us several things that help us gain a greater appreciation of it.
There are six words used for God’s Word: law, precepts, statutes, commandments, fear, and ordinances.
There are six words used to evaluate the Scriptures: perfect, trustworthy, right, true, sure, and radiant.
Six elements are showing the benefits that come from the Scriptures.
- The Scriptures can effect change in us – converting (Psalm 19:7a)
- They show us
- Who we are
- What we need
- How it is provided
- They show us
- The Scriptures give us understanding – certain (Psalm 19:7b)
- The law is trustworthy
- Through its dependableness, we gain an understanding
- Of God
- Of His purpose
- Of His plan
- The Scriptures bring joy – rejoices the heart (Psalm 19:8a)
- It shows us how to live
- It allows us fulfillment as we learn how to live
- The Scriptures are revealing – enlightening the eye (Psalm 19:8b)
- God’s commandments are just and good
- They are not for condemnation but for guidance
- The Scriptures are everlasting – endure forever (Psalm 19:9a)
- Fear meaning reverence
- This leads us to the purity of living which endures
- The Scriptures are dependable (Psalm 19:9b)
- This makes all other elements meaningful and valuable
- The Scriptures (Psalm 19:10-11)
- Greater worth than gold
- There is a great reward in keeping God’s Word
