The Epistle of James

James 2

  • Live without partiality (James 2:1-13)
    • We are given reasons why, if we live God’s way we will live this way
      • It demonstrates Christian character
      • It makes no distinction
      • It is the design of God’s grace
      • It denounces sin
      • It defeats compromise
      • It deadens judgment
  • Live with faith and works (James 2:14-26)
    • Faith and works is trust with feet
    • There are three kinds of faith expressed in these verses and only one is the faith that saves us
      • Dead faith (James 2:14-17)
        • This faith substitutes words for deed
        • It is intellectual in nature
        • It is expressed in the desire to discuss, but never decide to take a stand
      • Demonic faith (James 2:18-19)
        • This is intellectual and emotional
        • What the demons believe
          • God exists
          • Deity of Jesus
            • Mark 3:11-12
          • In judgment
            • Mark 5:7
      • Dynamic faith – intellectual, emotional, and brings an act of the will
        • It involves the whole person
          • The mind understands the truth
          • The heart desires the truth
          • The will acts on the truth
        • Faith is obeying in spite of the consequences
          • Abraham (Genesis 15 & 22)
            • He was a Godly man
            • Abraham believed God (intellect)
            • Abraham responded (emotion)
            • He acted to sacrifice (will)
            • He could lose a son
          • Rahab (Joshua 2 & 6)
            • She was a sinful person
            • Rahab believed God (intellect)
            • She responded (emotion)
            • She acted by hiding the spies (will)
            • She could be punished for her actions

How to live life? Live life without partiality to others. Live life with a dynamic faith that employs intellect, emotion, and will.
