The Greatest Wedding of All Time

The Greatest Wedding of All Time

Revelation 19:1-9

To show the wonder of Christ’s Second Coming

One of the most tender experiences in life is when two individuals repeat the sacred vows of marriage and are united as man and wife. This is a crowning time when the love each has come to know for the other has grown to the point that they are ready to share life from this time onward.

Marriage is the highest and holiest earthly relationship that is known, and it may be for this reason that marriage is used to illustrate the union between Jesus and His church at the end of the age.

  • Who is the bride
    • First we want to determine who is going to be united in this greatest of all weddings
    • Throughout the Scriptures, this great wedding portrays Christ as being united with His church
    • But then we must ask, who is His church?
      • The church is not one organization
      • Includes all the people who have been redeemed by the saving power of Christ and have been faithful to Him through all generations
      • Christ’s church includes every Christian of all time until Christ shall come again
  • Preparation of the bride
    • To prepare for a wedding a bride and groom
      • Planning
      • Working
      • Rehearsing
      • Shopping
    • The preparation that Christ’s bride must make is different in nature
      • Christ expects no less from His bride than is expected between a man and woman preparing for marriage
        • Purity (Revelation 19:8)
        • Faithfulness
          • When the marriage vow is taken it is for a lifelong experience of faithfulness one to the other
        • Love
        • Subject to one another
          • Ephesians 5:22
          • Ephesians 5:25
  • When shall this wedding be?
    • This wedding is to take place at the end of this age when Jesus shall come from Heaven to establish His kingdom
    • The day and hour are unknown, but instruction is given regarding this wedding through the parable of the ten virgins (Matthew 25)
      • They all knew the bridegroom was coming
      • Negligence found some unprepared
      • Only those properly prepared were able to share the joys of the wedding festivities
      • This shows us that we need to have more than the knowledge of Christ’s coming, we need to be prepared for the event

There is a great wedding that will take place and you can be a principal participant if you are ready.
