Until He Comes
To show that every Christian needs to know how Christ will come so we will be ready.
When Queen Victoria was barely 18 years of age, she ascended to the throne of England. Attending the great presentation of Handel’s Messiah for the first time, she was given instructions to remain seated when the chorus began. This had been custom since King George I. However, as queen, she was to remain seated.
As the great swelling of the magnificent song began, everyone rose with punctuality only the queen remained seated. However, when the thrilling passage declaring “King of Kings and Lord of Lords” was sung, the queen rose and bowed her head. There wasn’t one member of that grand audience who failed to understand the significance. Read an account here and here.
The Bible tells us that there is a day coming in which every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Christ is Lord to the glory of the Father.
The Bible has told us both that Jesus is coming again and it tells us how His coming shall be. It is important that every person know how Christ will come for this will aid us in our preparations for the event.
- He is coming personally (Acts 1:11)
- After His resurrection, there were periods when Jesus’ identity was in doubt
- At this point, there is NO doubt
- “This same Jesus shall so come in like manner as ye have seen Him go into Heaven.”
- After His resurrection, there were periods when Jesus’ identity was in doubt
- He is coming visibly (Revelations 1:7-8)
- This is reminiscent of Jesus’ words before the Sanhedrin (Mark 14:62)
- He is coming imminently (Matthew 24:36)
- The only warning of Christ’s coming is the events which He foretold would come to pass
- Calls for
- Readiness
- Watchfulness
- Faithfulness
- Expectancy
Therefore, every person needs to know how Christ will come so that they may be prepared. The second coming of Jesus is the perpetual light of the believer’s path.
Every time we come to the communion table we must focus on the return of Jesus if His words “in remembrance of me until I come” are to have any significance.
