Maintaining Proper Motives
In this section, Jesus teaches us about hypocrisy.
What is a hypocrite? Someone who engages in hypocrisy. What is hypocrisy? Hypocrisy is the practice of claiming to have moral standards or beliefs to which one’s own behavior does not conform; pretense.

- Jesus gave us the framework for prayer which should include the following elements
- Adoration (Matthew 6:9-10)
- Confession (Matthew 6:12)
- Thanksgiving (Matthew 6:13)
- Supplication (Matthew 6:11-13)
- This prayer (with the exception of forgiving our debtors) is in 19 prayers of Jewish liturgy. The people were familiar with it

Jesus shows us the attitude we carry toward our service to the Lord determines whether or not we will receive blessings from the Lord or accolades of men. The Lord’s blessings are eternal. The accolades of men fade.
