Luke 23:50 – 24:12
To show through analysis of the events of Jesus’ death and resurrection that we can be confident in our Lord.
I believe in Jesus Christ. I believe that He suffered under Pontius Pilot, was crucified and buried, descended into Hades, and on the third day He rose again from the dead!
The story of Jesus is a story of unequaled love and an unparalleled cost. As we look more carefully at the events following Jesus’ crucifixion, they give us great confidence in our Lord. That confidence is seen in the following:
- Jesus’ death
- The importance of His death
- Because of God’s edict concerning sin.
- Genesis 3 relates the conversation God had with Adam and Eve concerning life and death
- The Prophet reminded the people of his day that “the soul that sins shall die” in Ezekiel 18:4
- The people were complaining they were suffering in exile because of the sin of their fathers who had disobeyed God
- He reminds us the consequences of sin are the same for every generation
- Someone has to pay the penalty of sin. Death is the penalty of sin. Jesus’ death was substitutionary.
- Because of God’s edict concerning sin.
- Jesus’ death was verified
- By descending into the grave
- The soldiers at the cross by piercing His side with a spear
- Joseph and Nicodemus saw Jesus as dead (John 19:38-39)
- Jesus’ death assures there is forgiveness of sin.
- Without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness of sin
- The importance of His death
- Jesus’ resurrection on the third day
- Jesus’ resurrection is vital to our future
- I Corinthians 15:17-20
- The impact of the Resurrection to our hope
- I Corinthians 15:50-58
- Jesus’ resurrection is vital to our future
