Genesis 22:1-19
To show through an analysis of Abraham’s experience that God can be trusted in every area of life.
An analysis of Abraham’s experience with Isaac enables us to see that God can be trusted in every area of our life, and Abraham met the test.
God can be trusted
- Because of His person
- He had shown Himself trustworthy
- When Abraham was called to leave Ur, God was worthy of his trust
- When God promised him a son, He was true to His Word
- God provided for him in a famine
- He had shown Himself trustworthy
- Because of His promises
- God promised Abraham a great nation
- In Genesis this promise had already been given six times
- That nation would be realized through Isaac (Genesis 21:12)
- God promised Abraham a great nation
- Because of the provision
- Abraham was confident God would provide
- Shown as they departed alone
- “We will come back to you.” Genesis 22:5
- We are determined to go
- We are determined to worship
- We are determined to return
- Abraham was either
- A liar
- Delusional
- Believing God’s promise
- Shown as they departed alone
- Abraham was confident when Isaac asked the question
- God will provide the lamb
- Abraham was confident God would provide
Abraham didn’t know how, but he trusted. Even when he raised the knife to slay his son, he believed God!
Can God be trusted? Abraham stands witness to us that He can. When you face those critical confrontations that count, you can trust the One who is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
