A Profile of a Disciple – Jesus First

A disciple puts Jesus first in all things.

Meanwhile His disciples urged him, “Rabbi, eat something. But He said to them, “I have food to eat that you know nothing about. Then His disciples said to each other, “Could someone have brought Him food?” “My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of Him who sent me and to finish His work.” John 4:31-34

The Lordship of Jesus Christ in a believer’s life is the most critical issue of Christian living. We cannot experience the fullest in Christian living until we commit ourselves unreservedly to the Lordship of Christ. This is not a one-time experience. Jesus has a plan for all His disciples. In submitting to His lordship, we realize His plan for our life.

  • Submission must be consistent – ALL the time
  • Submission must be complete – ALL areas
    • The battle of submission
      • People do not acknowledge Christ as Lord for many reasons
        • God may ask us to do something we don’t want to do
        • We this we know what is best for our lives
        • We are not sure that God has our best interests at heart
        • We are afraid that what we give God may be taken away
    • Stages of obedience
      • I am going to do what I want to do no matter what God wants
      • If God will give me what I want first then I will give Him an equal exchange
      • If God will give me what I want first, then I will give Him what He wants
      • I will give God what He wants and then in faith believe that He will give me what I want
      • I will give God what He wants regardless of whether He gives me what I want
