A Profile of a Disciple – Cheerful Giver

A disciple gives regularly and honors God with his finances.

One of the greater privileges we have in our Christian life is giving to God’s work. Giving is a Lordship decision ultimately in which we turn over control of our money to Christ.

The blessing of giving is twofold:

• In giving to the Lord
• In helping someone else

Acts 20:35

• The supply of needs – Philippians 4:19
• God gives in the same manner we give – Luke 6:38
• God promises to supply abundantly – Proverbs 11:23-25 and Proverbs 3:9-10

How shall we give?

• Willingly and cheerfully – II Corinthians 9:7
• Joyfully – II Corinthians 8:1-2
• Thoughtfully – II Corinthians 9:7
• With a perfect heart (no mixed motives)
• Secretly – Matthew 6:1-4

To whom should we give?

• The starting point is the local church (10%)
• Other Christian causes beyond the tithe
