Profile of a Disciple – Servant
A servant is a person who doesn’t exercise his own will but rather submits it in order to please his master.
Characteristics of a servant:
- Humble – doesn’t attract attention to himself (Matthew 10:24)
- Diligent – active in doing is work (Matthew 24:45-47)
- Good example – able to teach others to be servants (II Timothy 2:2)
- Patient – opposite is resentment, impatience, and discouragement (II Timothy 2:24)
- Gentle (II Timothy 2:25)
- Obedient – this is the heart of servanthood (Ephesians 6:5-6)
- Dedicated (II Samuel 15:21)
- Faithful – David’s reputation (I Samuel 22:14)
How can we be servants?
- Be willing to do menial tasks (Acts 28:1-3)
- Paul after the shipwreck gathered wood for the fire in Malta
- Be available (Luke 9:59-62)
- Jesus invited people to follow Him but they gave excuses
- Bury my father
- Say good-bye to family

- Be observant (Psalm 123:2)
- Servants had to watch for hand signals to meet the needs of the guests
