All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
II Timothy 3:16-17
A disciple demonstrates faithfulness and a desire to learn and apply the Word of God.
A disciple of Jesus Christ is:
- A follower of Jesus Christ, desiring to learn His ways and apply them to his life.
- A person who puts Christ first in all areas of his life.
- Is committed to a life of purity and is taking steps to separate from sin.
- Demonstrates faithfulness and a desire to learn and apply the Word of God to his life.
The Bible helps us live the life of a disciple
- A disciple needs teaching
- Teaching must come from the Word of God
- Everything in our life is related to Biblical teaching
- How do we know how to live if we don’t know the instruction book?
- A disciple needs rebuking
- In order to live as disciples we need the Scripture to rebuke us to reveal how and where we have sinned
- The Holy Spirit reveals this as we are in the Scriptures
- A disciple needs correcting
- The Bible not only tells us we have sinned, but it also provides the corrective steps we must take for restoration of fellowship with God
- A disciple needs training in righteousness
- We have instructions as to how to live pleasingly before God
- How to live harmoniously with our fellow man
- How to serve the Lord
- All of this is training in righteousness
- We have instructions as to how to live pleasingly before God
The man or woman who wants to be a disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ must commit himself wholly to every means of intake of the Scriptures: hearing, reading, studying, memorizing, and meditating.
